Ernest Boyer described four types of scholarship in Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professoriate. Scholarship of discovery (basic research), integration (interdisciplinary and intersectoral research), application (service), and teaching were included in this categorization of scholarship. I find it useful to reflect on my state of interest in these four areas of scholarship. Below are my quasi-interval preference scores as of October 2007. Zero meaning not at all interested, and 10 meaning maximal interest.
Application= 10
Integration= 9
Discovery= 7
Teaching= 2
